  33. importance of endogenous lava emplacement
  34. mechanisms requires updating of groundwater
  35. models for some volcanic terranes because voids
  36. produced during lava inflation play a more significant
  37. role in their hydrogeology than has generally
  38. been recognised. Highly integrated, underground
  39. drainage systems in some very young lava flows in
  40. Iceland exemplify the potentially complex, fissured
  41. and conduit aquifers which may exist. Similarities
  42. between such aquifers and easily polluted, karstic
  43. conduit aquifers suggest greater research and more
  44. careful and protective management of some volcanic
  45. aquifers are warranted. Interpretation of aquifer
  46. structure can be impeded on very old lava flows by
  47. superimposition of sediments and accumulation of
  48. weathering residues but, if emplacement was by
  49. endogenous processes, then relicts of similar void
  50. systems may persist and pose similar hazards." name="eprints.abstract" />

  400. importance of endogenous lava emplacement&#13;
  401. mechanisms requires updating of groundwater&#13;
  402. models for some volcanic terranes because voids&#13;
  403. produced during lava inflation play a more significant&#13;
  404. role in their hydrogeology than has generally&#13;
  405. been recognised. Highly integrated, underground&#13;
  406. drainage systems in some very young lava flows in&#13;
  407. Iceland exemplify the potentially complex, fissured&#13;
  408. and conduit aquifers which may exist. Similarities&#13;
  409. between such aquifers and easily polluted, karstic&#13;
  410. conduit aquifers suggest greater research and more&#13;
  411. careful and protective management of some volcanic&#13;
  412. aquifers are warranted. Interpretation of aquifer&#13;
  413. structure can be impeded on very old lava flows by&#13;
  414. superimposition of sediments and accumulation of&#13;
  415. weathering residues but, if emplacement was by&#13;
  416. endogenous processes, then relicts of similar void&#13;
